Niche /niCH,nēSH/: A specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service.
What is your niche? Without doing some critical thinking and strategizing, this is not something that is easily answered.
While nailing down your niche, it's important to present your audience with a clear, informative statement that identifies exactly what you do.
Here is my primary statement: design for the free-spirited business owner. It speaks directly to the services I provide, as well as my buyer persona.
My tagline is: contemporary calligraphy and boho brands. Again, this identifies what I provide and uses language directed towards my ideal client.
When I use these statements in my branding, they encompass everything I need to tell my audience in the simplest form. However, I did not develop these key branding pieces in five seconds. They were developed by guiding myself through some strategic questions.
Here are some questions I used to nail down my niche:
- Who is your audience?
- What services and products do you provide?
- What are words that describe you and your brand style?
- What are your potential clients' pain points?
- What are your strengths?
This is a great place to start when strategizing your brand messaging and I encourage every business owner to invest the time in doing so.
